After all the time, tasting and attention that’s gone in to choosing the cake, you want to make sure that while everyone can admire it, it doesn’t come to any harm until it’s time for the happy couple to cut it.
Given the current situation and the likelihood of more weddings being held outdoors, you don’t want the cake positioned where it’s too hot and sunny so that it doesn’t begin to melt, or placed in a high-traffic, high-risk area. Of course, you want your guests to see it, but not to bump into it!
It’s also worth making the decision of where to position the cake early then sticking to it as the less it’s handled, the less chance there is of any damage occurring. Just make sure that you check what will be behind it when you’re deciding the position so that you don’t have anything you don’t want in the photos.
However, if the worst happens – an unexpected bump, a sunken tier, melted icing – the best thing to do is to get on with cutting it as soon as possible and then you won’t be constantly reminded of the mishap.
